Trail Condition

Postby nwemmorey » March 27th, 2007, 11:38 am

I rode Olson park yesterday. There is some mud, but its not too bad. Many small branches are scattered on the trail and there is one large branch that has fallen on the trail.

Right after the wooden bridge where the wooden triangle used to be that is just after that nice downhill . It's not really a branch as much as a small tree trunk.

I was there monday the 26th and it was ridable but the mud was a little soft, that obvious made it slower usual. Didn't check out the upper parts.

hiked Bluffs today for some exercise and brush clearing. Everything is in pretty good shape, a "prescribed burn" was completed in several large areas and that should help some of the overgrown spots of the trail, but the others that weren't burned need to be trimmed way back.

A couple of trees have fallen across the trail (the northernmost valley), nothing massive--handsaw will do. I'll take care of it myself this week if I get the chance.

Rode all of Olson today, and the trails are mostly dry/frozen, with only a few soggy spots. (except for the areas near the swamp, which were still pretty muddy. There was no downfall that couldn't be either hopped over or ducked under. I was going to do M-14 and Leslie, but opted out, figured they would still be wet.

as soon as it warms up, my friends and I are going to get out and do a deadfall brawl at the Bluffs, maybe I'll post a time/date and get some extra help.

Rode lots of Olson tonight and the trails south of there. All are in excellent shape, fast, very little mud.

Just a few little washouts in some corners like the "kitty litter" spot.

Rode all of Olson, M-14 and leslie today, and even the leslie mud pit is dry, the trails are in great shape Although Olson is getting a little overgrown in spots, it's still ridable.

Rode most of Olson tonight, trail in good dry condition. Some of the muddier spots finally drying out.

I found a key in the parking lot near the eastern entrance to the trails, maybe a bike lock key. Let me know if you lost one.

Tonight we will be working at Olson. The city is delevering a good supply of
armoring materials to the park today so we will be starting some pretty
interesting armoring projects. If you have your trusty IMBA book you may want
to re-read that section. If not, this is a great opportunity to learn armoring
technique.

Tonight (Monday), 6:30 PM, Olson Park

Meet in the main parking lot off of DhuVarren. Bring shovels, loppers, wheel
barrows, weed whips, work gloves, lawn mowers and bug spray.

The three of us spent a good three hours and we only got the southern graveyard loop. we need to have a major lopper fest there soon.
