I drove around for well over an hour looking for this god foresaken trail and still never found it. I would advise anyone going out here to print as many directions as you can find off this site. Print the map. Twice. You are going to need it. I even asked a park ranger and she gave me directions to a trailhead (that I never found).

Thank goodness Maybury is close!

Think of it as an IQ test?!?!

Or just check the trail guide.

So did you find the park at least? If you found the park, you just pull straight in and park next to the baseball diamond on your left. It is the only one on the left (west) side of the park. There is a paved path that runs past the diamond. Just as the paved path enters a wooded section, you will see a yellow carsonite sign marking the trail head. Make sure you enter the first path, if you enter the second one, you will be riding the trail backwards which makes it even harder to follow.

Yes it is hideout for some :!: and if you ride on a Friday or Saturday night you might find a party by the river!

Last Sunday's storm littered the trail with sticks and small limbs and few downed / low hanging trees which will cleaned up over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime ride with caution and don't forget the bug spray!

Trail School followup

Postby Dan_Harrison » June 15th, 2005, 9:22 am

I am wrapping up the paperwork for the Trails 101/102 session we had at Commerce on May 15. I need information for the following eight people:
Brian Bialk
Wendy Cox
Roy Dutton
Benjamin Gannon
Tom Giberson
Jeff Shotwell
Jean Steinberg
Tom West

Please send me a PM (NOT an email) with your email address, and chapter affiliation. That way I can add you to the "Trail School Forum" participants.
Thanks!

Large fallen tree blocking the trail near Oakley Park Road.

Large fallen tree blocking the trail near Oakley Park Road.

It's at the extreem northern end of the trail just before the sharp curve to the right and steep hill. It's not rideable (for me anyway) and will take a chain saw to remove it.

Decker Road is closed between 14 and 15 mile roads.

Decker Road is closed between 14 and 15 mile roads making it difficult to access the park from Novi Road. If you are coming from 696 or 275 you would be better off taking M-5 to 15 mile and 15 mile to Decker. I rode the trail for the first time today and had a hard time finding it mostly because of the Decker Road closing. I downloaded and printed out the directions, description and trail map from the Trail Guide on this site which was very helpful.

Tina and I rode the trail yesterday. It's getting pretty overgrown so next time I'll make sure to take some pruners with me...the section across from the football field (with the ramp) is getting pretty bad and a weed wacker would work wonders...too bad I don't own one....

Tonight I got out and cut up the big log - thanks Jim!
Weedwacked some of the other section too - thanks Justin!

The trail should be much improved but I have a feeling more pruning needs to be done elsewhere.. :D

This was the first time I rode this trail. I didn't understand the marking strategy so I probably missed a lot.

Anyway, it was in good shape except it's a bit overgrown. Could use a good trimming. It's a good trail after a hard rain.

It could use some better signage but it's a fine trail. Nice job builders.

Jody,

There have been issues with the signs that were posted being pulled down by vandals, vagrants and whippersnappers. They'd be put up over and over only to be torn down again and again. I am not sure what the latest plan is for keeping signs idiot proof.

First time ride!

Postby motorless hog » July 18th, 2005, 5:43 pm

Today is the first time I road hickery glen. Although its the fourth I rode the trail, But today I figured out which trail goes where. So now I can start actually cruisin. A couple of obstructions 1-2 miles into it. A trip wire log and a clothesline log will get ya if your not carefull. Any other beginners want to ride let me know. :D

Just rode this trail for the first time today.
Wow, did I get lost. I somehow ended up in a sub off of Oakly Park and had to take the roads back. I even had the map with me!
The trail itself was very overgrown, tons of face slappers. I couldn't get much speed because I couldn't always see the trail.
I wouldn't recomend this trail until it gets marked better.

B-

You lost the MTB trail in the grassy area by the cell phone tower... then you exited the park property (rode through a ton of sand  ) and wound up in the Walled Lake School System land tract....

Back to the grassy area by the cell tower...the MTB trail both JOINS and CROSSES the old (wide) "two-track-trail" in this area - you probably noticed the yellow carsonite signs that are still in tact there - but you couldn't see the key (3) markers that were stolen  ..PM me if you'd like to help replace them this fall. They'll be bolted to 6x6 lumber and cemented deep into the ground. We'll use lots of cement

Will get to the downed trees soon..

Thanks,

Tim

I removed a couple of the trees tonight. I can't remember if there were more than 2 down.
