Snuck a ride in this afternoon, and was only rained on a little bit. Trail was in pretty good shape, a few puddles, and obviously some leaves. There is a tree down across the trail at approx. mile 6.

I saw the signs where the tree root bandits hacked up the trail, and thought they were very well done. Are they going up on the other trails that were hit? That really sucks they took out that last root on the hard left turn, that one always seemed to get me by surprise. Seriously though, who cuts out roots?

Cutting roots is just a bad idea all around. Not only might it kill the tree (almost all of a trees roots are in the first foot of soil) it severely weakens the tree's anchoring. Hopefully these people are caught.

There are a few BIG trees that are down over the trail. Will require a chain saw and a few people to lug it away. Makes that part of the trail un rideable. Must get off bike and walk around. immediately after that tree that is blocking is another tree that fell but is leaning on another tree. I don't think that one will be falling anytime soon. Looks pretty neat. Easily passable underneath it on bike. I love lakeshore this time of year. So many great colors!!

I don't know the names of the loops. I think they are about 4 miles and 5 miles in following the 'less difficult" trail.

tree down at 1mile . not an issue if you go over the big logpile as its on the bi-pass.

We've been making steady progress on clearing the deadfall.

So... it must be time for another storm...

"A severe thunderstorm driving wind gusts of 50 m.p.h. will move through southeast Michigan early this afternoon. The storm will bring winds of 30 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. Gusts in excess of 60 m.p.h. are possible."

As a result, the normal Tuesday night group ride won't be happening tonight. In addition, the City of Novi has requested that people refrain from using the park trail system until 8:00am 10/28/10 or until this storm system subsides.

However, since you have time now and are interested in cycling in Novi, there's a non-motorized master plan workshop tonight at the Novi Public Library from 7:00 until 8:45.

There's a tree down somewhere after mile marker 5. I don't know the trail well enough to give any better than that, but I do have the GPS coordinates: N42.50146 W83.49278

About 8-9" in diameter. Likely to need a chainsaw.

Cool, that makes it easy. That's close to the 2 track leading to the crater, near the end of the swamp loop I figure.

I'll deal with it in the morning - thanks!

Great Job Loren! Thanks! Trail was in amazingly great shape today. Leaves getting packed down and all dried up.
