pfox90 wrote:*beep* the trail is in good shape. Needed that rain last night now there is some nice traction to be had. I recommend you get out there today. Thanks to the eagle scouts and whoever helped build the new feature on red route. We should move to fixing a new stunt by loopmans where that tree ride was all rotted out.

That is on the long term plan for sure. My next project though is to get the field smoothed out, and add a wooden drop and a jump or two, to get people to ride it. Pretty tied up until after the 4th, but we'll see......

I've got a few weeks off here at the end of july (summer classes ugh) could put in a lot of work towards getting those projects done.

Thanks!

Sunday, maybe-depend on how saturday goes! Do I go through you or can I just check in with the park guys?

I will post up when I get going. Thanks for the offer. The plan is to do the drop like the one at Anderson. It will go in Glorious Poperds, where there is a bypass sign on a pole in the middle of nowhere. That pole has been patiently waiting. The jump will go at the bottom of that hill, on the natural rise that is in the treeline.

To flatten the trail I need to rent some equipment and coordinate with the park to use their tractor.

I am out of town this weekend. Jeff Gehl is the park manager, Tim is assistant. One of them will be working this weekend. Find them at the winter sports building or the maintenance building. Or, just stop anyone else and have them get them on the radio. Tell them you are with the MMBA and that I sent you. They are both very willing to help us out.

Thanks Steve.

It was quick work to finish up the field mowing today. Only had to do part of Nathans Dynamite, part of Serenity, and the end of Remember Me.

Thanks to whoever has been mowing out there recently. I really appreciate it.

Steve, pm on the way.

Quite a few people out on the trail today. Had a nice impromptu ride with some friends. Saw Reid pulling in the lot as we were leaving. Trail is really nice right now. Bugs seemed to be in hibernation which was great. The more that I am learning this trail, the more that I am liking it. Rode the new bridges today that I couldn't find. Very nice!! I love the entrance to these because you can really get some good speed up for them.

It looks like almost everything was mowed. Very happy to see this.

Thanks to Jeff and the others, today I noticed lots of mowing done well - wide where it should be wide, narrower where it should be narrower. I didn't ride many trails, I was just doing some watering of the grass I planted in the fall zones of the Hellboy stunts. Some of it is starting to take hold and others are just starting to sprout, so I'm trying to get it wet every few days. I don't have the schedule (or stamina) to do it every time it should be done - but I do what I can and hopefully it will survive. If anybody wants to help, there's a watering "can" (plastic) hidden under the log at the back side of the brush pile five feet from the left side of the curve of Twisted. It's about the same distance to ride to Peppermint Creek bridge or to the river using the cutoff, to fill it up with water. There's poison ivy by the river, but it's shade all the way. I should have discovered the closeness of the river sooner, I think I sunburned my poison-ivied arms riding to Peppermint Creek and back ;-)

If anybody wants to help with the watering, please just go ahead and do it. I think that I get so little water on there, it takes so many trips (about 17 today) that I don't get as much water on there as I would like. If two (or ten!) of us did it on the same day, it would be even better. No need to make sure nobody else is doing it on the same day. If you only have time to make a few trips, please concentrate on the area between Twisted and The Highway, the new seed in there is starting to sprout and it's in the sun more than the other areas, so it needs the most help. Weeding can be done as well, in any of the areas, but I'm not leaving my trowel out there. There is a bit of poison ivy growing, watch out for it.

Ah, didn't see you - unless you were the guy in the black pickup (suv?) that made eye contact as he was leaving that I didn't recognize through the window. I did meet xcrdr (Don) for the first time, though, so that was good. Used his idea of washing up (removing poison ivy oils) after the ride, but at the pump instead of the river.

I couldn't pass them up on my way out - discovered that they must be slightly downhill, I coasted slowly across one entirely and the other until quite near the end of it. Both with a low-to-medium speed entry, it was a nice change-up to riding them normally, and a way to practice low-speed control. I was holding a big trowel in one hand and didn't want to try to ride them fast.

The place is looking really good!

Nope. We were in a silver Honda Pilot (friend of mine). You had literally just pulled in. Not even sure you saw us. We rode with Don and a few other people.

I figured out who did the mowing the other day. It was Nathan (of Nathan Dynamite fame). Thanks Nathan. Glad to hear you will be in town this summer. Bump into you soon!

Rode today with pfox90. Trail is really good right now. The more I ride it, the more I am liking the newer setup. I know that I *beep* and complained a lot about the changes, but now that they are mostly done, I can see the bigger picture.

Noticed some mosquitoes making their appearance already over on Hanson's. Might be time to start using the bug spray again.

Hmm ... that's where I have one that's been bugging me all day - I think I picked it up out there yesterday, despite wearing bug spray. Well, until I washed it off because I thought I touched some poison ivy again.

Took a chance and rode the poles (new bridges near MacNamara) at speed for the first time. It was fun, but it sure is over quickly doing it that way.

The bugs didn't seem all that bad, actually, but there are some out there. I wasn't moving quickly since I was primarily watering and retrieving water from the river, so a moving cyclist shouldn't see too many of them. That said, riding along the river on the way back to the parking lot, I kept getting tiny little ones in my eyes - must be clouds of them near the river.

Other than that, conditions are great!

Today was my first time riding at Burchfield this year, and it was the most fun I've ever had out there. A couple things to note:

1. It seemed to me that the signage was much better than it has been previously. There were three or four places where I usually doubt myself that I spotted new arrows that helped keep me rolling in the right direction.

2. The new bridges and stunts are a lot of fun. I'm not going within 30 feet of Hellboy, but some of the other new features were within my realm of possibility and proved to be a great time.

The trail's in great shape. Thanks to everyone for the hard work to continue to upgrade it!
