stay out of the bark park!

Postby barkparker » August 19th, 2005, 2:25 pm

In case you rocket scientists haven't figured it out yet (and judging by the number of cyclists riding through our park, I'd say you haven't) the Bark Park is off limits to bikes. It is inteneded for - try to stay with me - DOGS!!!!

Perhaps the fences, signs, and crowds of dogs haven't been clear enough for you.

I've been to the bark park many times over the past 7 yrs and have never seen a bike in the enclosed dog area (defined by the double gates). The rest of the park is open to bikes, and I see dogs and bikes there all the time. I can assure you that people who enjoy cycling (like those on this BB) wouldn't waste their time in that tiny little fenced-in area.

*beep*! Troll...or whatever you are just get lost!

Sounds like you can't even read the "stay with me...signs" as they are posted.

Postby todddarling1 » August 19th, 2005, 4:14 pm

I just pulled up the map of Orion Oaks and low and behold the bark park is also listed as a trailhead. Huh. Imagine that!

Can't we all just get along!!!!

Rode at Orion this morning, came in from the Bark Park entrance. The trail clearly goes around the outside of the fenced area for dogs but there could be some confusion with the new section that was recently added. The former access trail to the rest of the park is now inside the Bark Park. The new access trail is not clearly marked since you have to follow the fence line a lot farther north before turning. There are signs up that say no bikes inside the fenced area.

All over the park there are signs saying "dogs must be on a 6' leash outside bark park". Only half of the people walking thier dogs in these areas do this! Is this an intelect thing? You don't know where you're supposed to be, why should I believe you know where I should be, Mr. Barkparker, or is it a self righteous, arrogant thing?
Do, or do not, there is no try.

98% percent BONE-DRY...

Postby drmoorejr » March 18th, 2006, 8:31 pm

I am NOT a trail coordinator, but I do know EVERY inch of Orion Oaks trails. Only one muddy area, near Clarkston Road... as you approach a small bridge that crosses a stream. I Checked almost every area, and even the sandy areas were dry enough to kick up sand. One other area across Lake 16 between markers 8 and 9 (& 50 yards after 9) were a slight bit tacky, but not enought for a bike to cause damage. The muddy area close to the Clarkston Road enterance could easily be avoided for a nice dry ride.

I did NOT get to check every single area today, but enough for a great XC Pre-season workout..

Checked the rest of Orion Oaks today (Sunday).

I found more muddy spots.... mostly confined to the Residential/School "Safety Zone" near Baldwin and before (.25 mile before) marker 21. That area had many hikers with dogs who did not seem to mind the extra mud... The ground in that area is pretty firm.. but you could avoid that area altogether, by taking 20 to 22 to 21... then the rest that I could find was dry. Oh... one dead possum was found.. maybe killed by an unleashed dog. Well better the possum than a Mountain biker! 8)

I just rode it and all was clear! The grass is getting greener and the birds and chipmunks are out full force. Great day to ride! Tomorrow should be even better!

Kristhal and I hiked the trails Monday... very good conditions...

We rode it Tuesday... After weeks of rain... I can always count on Orion Oaks to dry quickest....

NEw single track ???

Postby drmoorejr » June 5th, 2006, 8:12 am

Anyone interested in riding Orion Oaks... with intentions to scope areas for possible ideas for new directional single track loops (Tech)?

I have some ideals... especially close to Fossil Hill. We can submit them to Fellow MMBAers of SE Chapt.

PM me
