Hey all, I was hoping to get some info from the locals that are on this trail/maintain it often. I'll be back in town for the holiday weekend and was hoping to get some riding in. With the way the weather is looking for the week, do you think it will be rideable? I'm not familiar with the soil/surface, its been forever since I've rode here. I also have some friends from TC/Kalkaska that are thinking of running down to get some training in for Mud Sweat & Beers. We're just trying to find the best place to ride, and are respectful of the trails and the work you all do. Any help/insight is much appreciated!

If the forecasted weather holds true an early morning ride would be the time. My suggestion would be the East loop and avoid the Orchard loop. The frost is still deep in the ground and higher afternoon temps bring soft surfaces and deep ruts. Thanks for inquiring; Ronald Arnott, Holdridge TC

Great, thank you for the info! We'll keep an eye on the weather and take it from there.

Please don't ride Holdridge this weekend. As most of the trails in central Michigan the frost is still leaving and they are pure mud.

First seven of the east are good and the return to 14, there are a couple trees down in the first mile but the rest was great. West and north I would stay off for a bit longer.

Ron, is the North loop ok to ride upto the entrance of the East Loop?

Rode the first 7 miles of East Loop this morning before the rain started. The trail was moist, which made the roots and the uphills a little slick. Tires spun on a few of the uphills. But there was no mud and the trail was firm. This may not hold up after the next few days of rain though. Maybe it will wash some of the leaves on the trail away as the trail isn't always easy to see up ahead.

Big props to Ron and any other trail gnomes for all the tree clearing. I noticed a lot of recently cut log ends on either side of the trail. Swear I can still smell the fresh cuttings. There is still that huge mess in the beginning of the East Loop. It's size makes me laugh as I clamber along jumping from log to log carrying my bike, hoping not to slip.

Took the escape at mile 7 and didn't ride any other trails so can't vouch for their condition. Would imagine there is some significant moisture on the North and West, or there will be anyway.

Gobs and gobs of rain overnight in Holly.

Don't bother trying to ride any of the trails till a couple days after it stops.

I was thinking of heading out there tonight around %30p to do the west loop.I'll report back on the conditions. Its the same distance from my place as it is to Stony. So it may be a coin toss for me.

I just walked the west and it had some bad long sections. Several trees down that I left, I cleaned out many sections of autum olive from the trail. I wouldn't of rode it unless you are willing to walk the bad sections.

Rode west, a few sections in the beginning that needed to be walked and a lot of downed trees, after the first mile or so it was in pretty good shape. Tech was all clear and in good shape, didn't ride the north loop.

If you head out to clear any of those trees on the west loop anytime soon shoot me a PM and I will lend a hand.

Rode the first five miles of East Loop yesterday afternoon. There's one large ash down near the end of the first mile, approximately, that will require a chain saw. I moved several 4-6 inch chunks, but the trail was in great shape otherwise. Thorn Dog exit has a few deep wet spots. Nice signs out there!
