I don't get to Pontiac much and yesterday was a perfect fall day to get out, but holy *beep* something hatched in the warm weather. I'm sure the bugs will be gone after the rain and temps fall back down, but don't think I've ever inhaled as many bugs as yesterday. Trail was great though.

This post is not correct:

"At the top of the gully there used to be a white sign marked, "Danger - Slow"
I rode through there on Sunday, and the sign was lying on the ground, mostly blasted by a shotgun."

Sign has not been "blasted". Sign is paper and several years old left over from a tailwinds race. Time and wind just took its toll, not a hunter.

Trail is in amazing shape right now! Lots of leaves. It's a blast riding backwards at night except for that hunter we ran into. Isn't it illegal to hunt after sunset?!

Was he actually hunting or just walking back out from where he had been hunting? A lot of deer hunters hunt right up until the legal time limit (which is 1/2 hour AFTER sunset) before walking out of the woods. This is legal to do as long as weapons are unloaded when carried out.

He said he was walking back. I'm not sure if his firearms were unloaded or not but he didn't give us any trouble so it was no big deal. I'm all for hunting but like to avoid areas where it's legal during the season which is partially why I was out at night.

Trail hazards are 16-18 with at least 8 get-off-your-bike. Majority of bad ones are on down hill-after lake over look, before road and just after road, top of the switchback, after RC field to name a few. Ton of branches on the trail catching chain and of course lots of leaves. It was a beautiful afternoon and did not see another soul the entire ride.

Almost three hours later and all the hazards that needed a chainsaw are gone. Still a lot of branches left on the trail. Trail was also slippery any place there was clay.

Dang, I rode it at 2:30. I should have waited. There were some serious obstacles to get around. One tree had me stuck in the vines. I had at least 4 sticks stuck in the wheel. Other than that, it was great! LOL.

Thanks smart blast.org for the trail maintenance.

Trail conditions for Monday December 2, 2013: the mountain bike trail at Pontiac Lake is clear and free from any obstructions. The trail bed is mostly dry and leaf covered, except for the 1/2 mile of trail from the remote control model airplane field (roughly mile 5.5) to roughly mile 6, where the trail is wet and muddy. The gully section is clear and dry. If temperature drop as expected later this week, the wet section will freeze up solid.

Trail is frozen and fast. One tree down you can hop at the very beginning. LARGE DANGEROUS TREE HANGING OVER THE TRAIL AROUND 1.5 MILE. Tree is near were you can see houses and woodpile. It is on the right side and only held up by a small limb. Park rangers have been requested to remove tree so use caution if there is any wind and hope they can get out there soon! Saw a few hunters but had most of the trail to myself.

Since it was so balmy today and the snow is coming tomorrow, decided to hit the trail while I still could. Pleasantly surprised that the DNR was already out there and took care of the two trees. Trails is in great shape and was not slippery even without studs.

Saturday 1pm: too greasy/soft. can't climb even the small hills, or turn any faster than 5mph without loosing grip. I turned around .5mile in. no pizza cutters. lots of snowmobile tracks. when it gets cold it's going to be a nice ride!
