5/27/2004 - Trails are Good

Postby Closed Loop » May 27th, 2004, 9:47 pm

Rode both loops tonight (5/27/04), and the trail is in excellent condition considering all of the rain. Only a couple of muddy spots. There is sand at the bottom of some hills and more roots are exposed on some of the ups, also some of the ups are a bit loose, but that just adds to the fun. Get out and ride, no worries about the mud.

Matt, have you mixed up this thread with the Poto:Poto thread? Brighton's actually in pretty good shape comparitively.

brighton

Postby Liquid » May 29th, 2004, 12:23 am

my first time at brighton 5-28-04 fri. that was an excellent ride. the curves on the murray trl. were sculpted to such perfection that it allowed you to keep your speed going with out sliding. very smooth trail over all, & fast. cant wait to go back. conditions were perfect. all but the sand trap before a severe right hand turn leading to an uphill. that was the only thing that got me.

Some one Finally sawed up the big tree that had fallen on Torn shirt at the bottom of the Down hill w/ the root Drop offs ( thank god I was pretty squirrely today  )Now if they would only get the big one on the lost loop we would be all set .lots of sand, and LOTS of small face smakers. All was dry, it was pretty busy at Brighton today.

My brother and I road Murray Lake and Torn Shirt last night. Both were in good repair with no trees down.

There's a bad washout on one of the last descents on Murray Lk. It's formed a gulley several inches deep and a few yards long. It caused some panic manuevers as I was moving fast and didn't see it until I was in it.

My brother and I did Torn Shirt last night. The trial is in pretty good shape though the roots are becoming more pronounced every time I ride it as well as the loose sand/dirt.

The latter part of the trail is still rather overgrown so I'm guessing there wasn't a huge turnout for the work day.

I plan to do a bit of homework on how to trim the trails and what to do with the brush and get out there this week (possibly tomorrow) to do some trimming.

Do I need permission from a chapter head or the DNR to go out there with loppers?

I worked on Torn Shirt today for a few. Someone beat me to the lopping at the end so I focused on the bush wackin'.

I didn't walk the entire trail so beyond the last mile or two I'm not sure how bad the face slappers and foliage are.

Rode Torn Shirt yetserday. There are still plenty of slappers in the 3rd quarter of the loop as well as the grass-kudzu hiding some of the trail.

Some of the climbs are getting pretty loose but overall the trail is in good shape.
