It was a really fun sprint adventure race!! I recommend it for first-timers.....it'll be taking place again next year.

Did my usual "weekend double challenge" Poto and Brighton. Man is the Thorn Shirt ever dry! We need some rain! Was spinning the tires on almost all climbs. The swim after the ride was great thou.
BTW. I don't find the trail to be poorly marked.

Brighton poorly marked? What do they want signs every 5 feet? If your getting lost at Brighton please by a road bike.

The beginning is a bit wonky, but after that it's quite good. I'm glad I had someone to show me the way to the two trails my first time, because it would have been easy to accidentally end up on the wrong one or only on the hiking trails.

Two trees down on TS.
First one at 1 mile has a lot of limbs on the trail.
The second one is right at the end before the intersection with Murray.

I could help Friday night on that first tree if you need it, pm me.

Lot's of debris on Murray after storms, but not too bad. There's a tree branch sticking out about head height before the double bridges near Baur Rd. that looks dangerous and should be cut back. There's also a tree sticking into the trail near the end before the road crossing.

Possibly could have done something with them but stopping was NOT an option! Bugs were horrific! They were all over me slowing for climbs and were hard to shake. There were some fly sized bugs with larger wings I'm not too familiar with that were getting me. It would have really sucked if I got a flat or broke down. Skipped TS and went over to ILRA, which was much better.

Deer flies are the usual suspect this time of year. They were aweful last year at BRA.

Horse Flies will chase you down on the hills. If you can't maintain 5 mph your are dead meat at Brighton.
Don't park in the shade, on the west side of the lot!

They were awful at IRLA this morning as well. Always far worse at Brighton though.

Anyone have a current Torn Shirt downed tree report? There is a possibility I will be able to clear the two areas that I encountered on Thursday later today.

Same trees are still down as of 7:00am this morning.

One advantage of the flies is that they are so thick that they will push you up a hill if you're having trouble.......

So, riding The Lost Loop today I came across the tepee tunnel/limbo trail feature. What sort of rituals are performed out there? Should I have sacrificed a chicken or something as an offering to be granted safe passage?

In a situation like that I would have to answer yes. It's better to be safe and have all your angles covered before moving forward alone. Plus, better the chicken than you right? And if you didn't do it than after work today you might want to swing by KFC and buy a 10 piece bucket to drop off at the trail. You gotta keep the balance. You don't want any bad Juju following you around.
