I'll post something next week. The DNR is responsible for user/tourist maps and signage. The MMBA is trying to help them out with this.

All of the new stuff is bandit?

No, just that right turn that heads out to Bauer road north bound.

I was referring to where the trail is guided right by pink flags, and goes *near* Bauer; not out to Bauer. I assume the part marked with flags isn't bandit, but what do I know.
Trail just needs to get marked ... sorry if I am contributing to confusion. Let me know if I can contribute to actually help. For now, I'll just shut up about it! :D

Murray is in pretty great shape. I could use a little trim in some sections, but the trail bed was just about perfect. There was a tree down about 200ft after you turn onto Murray at the beginning. A ride around has already started to form.

What is the status on the singletrack loop off the Found Loop that parallels Bauer Rd? I'm getting the impression it was a bandit trail. It is a shame if my assumption is true.

Unfortunately your assumptions are correct.

The trail is in need of much improved marking. I ride most of the popular SE MI trails and Brighton definitely has the most unmarked intersections. The new trail extension is very confusing with trails criss crossing over each other multiple times. Without any trail marking it's impossible to tell what's legit and what's bandit.

While we're at it, are the signs stating "Parking Lot" much use to anyone? I never understand if a.) I should keep following the trail in this direction to get to the parking lot or b.) if I follow the sign it will lead to a shortcut to the parking lot. The numbered signs work great. I just wish there were at least 10 more of them at Brighton.

Couldn't agree with you more, we've (MMBA) been promised signs for years, please call or write to the Brighton Recreation Area:

It was very nice at 10am this morning. A couple of very small soft spots but easily avoidable. Sandy corners were nice and grippy. I'm sure it's just perfect out there by now.

Perfect indeed.

In other news, the garlic mustard is staging an "occupy Murray Lake trail" movement, and appears to be winning.

The "more lost" ("super lost"?) loop is fantastic, the dropped tree on the bandit trail plus the race flags made it much easier to figure out. I think I've been riding everything backwards up till today.

Tour de Cure

Postby countryboy_mike » June 5th, 2012, 7:16 pm

Just a heads up that the Tour De Cure is taking place this Saturday (6/9/21012) at Brighton Rec. We will be riding the trails from 9:00 am until 12:00ish. The trail is going to be crawling with bikes. Anyone else riding in it? I am riding for the Team Nissan team.

Peace,

Some thoughts that ran through my head while riding Torn Shirt today:
poorly marked
terribly eroded
lots of face slappers
and knee slappers
and handlebar grabbers
loose gravel
sand
roots
big loose rocks
OTB drop-offs
eroded downhill
eroded uphill
poorly maintained
poorly designed
long tallgrass
limited sight distance
blind corners

Not to mention:
mosquitoes
nats
deer flies
ticks
coyote scat
poison ivy

I'm beginning to like this trail, it's perfect, it makes me feel like I'm really mountain biking, not just road riding in the woods.

The person that maintains this trail should be fired!
