Too muddy... Give it a couple more weeks to dry out....
Be nice to the people on the ride up, you'll likely see them on your way back down!

Cannonsburg is still good to go, watch out for the sand. There's more of it than normal.

Muddy ride from all the rain over the weekend

Postby Mike_D » May 10th, 2004, 3:07 pm

Rode on Monday 5/10/04 - pretty muddy - give it a day or 2 to dry out.

I did one loop on Thursday. I would avoid it until the rain stops.

Postby bikehelmet » May 26th, 2004, 9:35 am

Anyone know the current trail conditions at Egypt Valley (Cann. SGA)? Trying to figure out whether to go there tonight or not.

Thx

muddy spots

Postby Mike_D » May 31st, 2004, 8:09 am

Those couple of muddy spots really need some attention. The trail is really getting trashed in those couple of areas and will never dry out - no drainage in those ruts. When is the next MMBA trail maintenance day out there? If there is one coming up, please post it here and I would be glad to help out.

I heard something about Cannonsburg

Postby gillkj » June 8th, 2004, 12:16 am

I heard that the DNR might close this trail, and will not let the trail be re-routed to help with the damaged sections of the trail. is this true ?

I have not heard anything, but I hope it's not true. We would be losing the best trail this close to G.R. I go there all the time, Id have to drive all over MI just to find another decent trail. :?

I'm not aware of any DNR closure of the trail there at this time. I just spoke to the mmba trail coordinator for out there last week. We are always treading on thin ice out there though. We have to remember that we are guests out there and riding there is a privledge, not a right. The land is first and foremost managed for hunting and game management. Just the fact that there is any official trail recognized that allows mountain biking is amazing.
I could definitely see the DNR closing if something like -- illegal bandit trails were made, or built up stunts showed up, or if enough hunters put up a stink about us being out there.
On the issue of the DNR not allowing trail re-routes. This is somewhat true. The MMBA has in the past been able to do some re-routes to fix sections that were poorly designed. The problem is that it is extremly difficult to get these changes through the proper approvals. This once again comes down to the issue of the purpose for that land -- game management and hunting. Any trail changes have to go through serious study on affect they may have on game animals and hunting.
Come out to the work day there this Saturday and Tony the trail coordinator can explain also.
