Just did some talking with the race promoter. He's upset about the painted rocks and roots as well.
He enjoys running the same trails as us and agrees that painted rocks and roots are not required for his race.
He's looking into how this happened as he himself marked the Shelden Estate and Trolley trails Friday with ONLY arrows on dirt and grass.

For what it's worth, I was riding the endurance route as late as 5-6pm on Saturday afternoon and I don't remember seeing anything more than the basic orange arrows that you mention. I don't think there were any roots or rocks marked at that point.

Good ride out there. A little dry in spots but ran smooth most everywhere. Not sure if I went through the reroute in the back 9, I just know I still climbed that killer loose gravel hill at the end. Did take not of a downed tree where the coaster has a right fork about 2/3 through that doesn't block I but makes it a bit tighter turn than normal.

On another note, I seen my first wild owl out there. Sad to say he flew off before I could get my phone out for a picture. Made a good end to the run though. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for him in that are next time and have the camera closer at hand.

The gravel-y climb after the twisting sandy descent at the very end is still there. The one that was routed around was much earlier on and was a tighter, narrower gravel-y climb with a 90 degree right hand turn at the top.

The reroute is coming in so nicely that someone not-super-familiar with the trail could be forgiven for not noticing that it's new construction.

I'll have to check my before and after GPS map to see where the change landed.

Was thinking about heading out to ride Stoney Creek this weekend if we get a break in the weather. Is there a good route that hits most of the "good stuff"?

This is the most comprehensive route of the XC trails.

Surprisingly good shape out there following the rains. Very few puddles (mostly in the Pines and on the 2-track). Much less dusty! :icon_thumleft:

re-re blocked off the reroute in the back 9.
just pivoted the branches that looked to have been moved out of the way. Other than that the trail was is super shape.

perhaps the hikers find that it is toooo far to walk down the re-route and need to use that shortcut.
maybe we should consider moving some shrubs and planting them in the old line.
we did this a few years back at pontiac lake so riders would HAVE to use the reroute,
and i had a hard time even finding it last week.

Sounds like a plan Whitey...On today's ride, it looked to me as if there was no way that a biker would be using the old trail. Too much debris still on the old tread.
We'll be having a trail trimming day soon, and we can do some transplanting then....

Tonight I finished up some new trail maps for Stony Creek. These are done by CRAMBA as unofficial maps of the trails out there, and are much more physically accurate than the official map. They also show more than the official, numbered segments including small bits that are used for races.

You can find the new map here: CRAMBA_Stony_Creek_04-Jun-2012.pdf

Additionally, I made three more maps which build on this by highlighting popular race and group ride routes. I'll be adding to these as I get more information on different race routes:

Fun Promotions 6 & 12 Hours of Stony Creek Route: CRAMBA_Stony_Creek_04-Jun-2012_Fun_Promotions_6_12_Hour.pdf
Tailwind Racing's XC Route: CRAMBA_Stony_Creek_04-Jun-2012_Tailwind_XC.pdf
MMBA / CRAMBA Wednesday Night Group Ride: CRAMBA_Stony_Creek_04-Jun-2012_Wednesday_Night_Group_Ride.pdf

Enjoy!
