Any reports after the snow melt? I want to ride in a couple of days, but don't want to damage the trail if wet and muddy.

We went to ILRA on Thursday and it was all mud with a few patches of ice and lots of standing water. So...as it pains me to say, we rode the cement bike path to and around kensington and back though the park to the Dodge parking area and back to the trail head for a total of 25 miles. Don't get the wrong idea, I would ride the mud...but now that I'm retired I can't afford the new parts I would wear out riding it. :roll:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MplmlZp9i5c

HamHock called me and said he rode the blue and yellow loop early (8:45am and the trail was fine. Few mud spots as the ground was still solid after 28 degree night before. He said even the bench cut down to the road was dry. 8)

I would disagree. I was at Island Lake yesterday afternoon evening and found that even the start and finish (blue/yellow) were muddy. I did not chance it and rode the road to Milford and found the Milford trail to be in great condition. Avoid Island Lake try Milford instead. You'll get a 27-29 mile ride in and preserve the already eroded ILRA.

i think what ibis is saying is if you get out before temps get above freezing the ground will be solid. based on past years experience, i can't imagine the track at ILRA will be stable for at least another week or two unless you get out 1st thing in the morning.

what do you mean "already eroded ILRA"?

Pizza cutters and deep footprints due to unthinking users.

What part of early did you not understand? And why would you even go out there at 4 in the afternoon? And as for eroded.... come back and look at the trail around late May and it looks like a side walk. Geez. :?

No worries, Ibis. Rotero and I ride ILRA all the time in the spring at 7:00AM (before the thaw). I think he misunderstood the idea behind the post. He was there at 4:00 to ride the pavement and just checked out the trail conditions. Aslo, check out Milford Trail. It's 95% good to go and only 10 minutes away by car or a nice 8 mile ride away.

Yup! I just didnt want to give anyone the idea that it's OK to ride it yet. As I was coming back from my ride on Tuesday there were people coming off the yellow.

Dumb question - what is the Milford trail? I am so accustomed to only riding ILA & Brighton Rec (with Kensington path when conditions aren't right).
