ILRA was very rideable today. I wouldn't ride it if it gets above freezing, however. Lots of frozen mud. BTW there is a pretty good sized tree down right after mile marker 9 on Blue in the "Pines" section. Too big to move, will need a saw. Within shouting distance from the paved bike path.

Merry Christmas!

Excellent shape this morning. Finished around 10. Will be getting sloppy now though.

Is the tree that was down near the end of Blue still blocking the trail?

Metro South: Island Lake

Postby Bento » January 2nd, 2012, 7:28 pm

4-wheeler tracks from Dodge to River Bend. On my second loop, I saw three drivers idling their machines in their backyard. The trail runs between the train tracks and the houses. Yea, it is the closest house that has the backyard trail joining the "multi-use" trail.

No trees down. Not really too much ice. Just frozen dirt with a dusting of snow. The sun burned through the snow from the section after the Kensington Rd Bridge to the first hill.

Parking lot full in the 48 deg afternoon according to reports (friends parked there for an afternoon road ride). Trail an absolute mess. Once it freezes it should be f'ed up real good. Way to go a'holes, ya all know who you are.

Some things never change, no matter how many discussions there are about when and when not to ride the trails. I bet they're excited about showing up to the next trail day.

Is this trail open or closed? I was wondering. Drove by on Friday, and I saw quite a few cars on 96 with bikes loaded up on them, heading in that direction.

The trail is only closed for riders with a conscious. By starting at the far parking lot, ride the road and then pick up the paved paths at the trail head, head over to Kensington and do a lap and return to the start gives you a 25 mile loop with some sustained climbs for a good workout. Or, you can choose to *beep* up the trail. It's a free country.

Maybe its time for a new "Is Your Name Mud" campaign/poster? It doesn't seem to apply since it deals with Spring Thaw. Of course that won't stop everyone from riding when the trails are soft, but maybe a few more.. I'd be glad to post an updated version at the Hick.

The East loop at Holdridge was perfect yesterday, no mud at all for those who want to ride and don't want to mess up the trails.

How much snow over there at IL? Thinking about busting out my fat bike for a lap or two...
