Ramp

Postby T-rex » November 8th, 2005, 7:29 pm

The ramp is the beginning of a new bridge we're adding. Guess I'd better close off the mouth until it's finished. Hoping to have a few more structures to ride yet this fall.

anxious

Postby feldpaj » November 9th, 2005, 8:04 am

it looks like it has great possibilites as an obstacle. :D

One sugesstion that i have is to put directional arrows on the path going east(?) away from the edwards creek parking lot, i rode it backwards all the way to the other park where i found the mmba sign stapled to a tree.

I think the correct direction would be to head east away from edwards parking lot and turn right before you cross the first bridge. ?

Direction

Postby T-rex » November 9th, 2005, 9:25 am

I need to change the directions on the MMBA site. Edwards Creek Park is the old trailhead, the new trailhead is at Allen G Davis Ballfields and it rides much better, sorrry for the confusion. Glad that you found your way and had a good time regardless of the confusing start.

Bear with us, the trail is still pretty new, we're tweaking the flow and slowly adding signage, structure, etc... It's only getting better and come spring should be in great shape.

Thanks for the input FELDPAJ.

The park information has been updated in the Trail Guide: new map, new directions, new length, etc. Please let me know if there are any additional changes. Thanks for all the work being done on this new trail.

Rain damage

Postby tirider » November 9th, 2005, 8:27 pm

Hit the trail this afternoon. The bridge between mile 2 and 3 has been whashed away from last nights rain. The water at the mile 3 bridge was almost up to the bridge. There was a few other spot slightly whased out as well. Some of the corners were very slick were the water was siting under the leaves, I went down a few times. Other than that the trail is in good shape. I think some maintenience will need to be done around the water areas to try an prevent future problems and wash aways this spring.
Thanks to everyone who has put in a great effort to build and maintain this trail.

new northshore

Postby MantoR » November 13th, 2005, 3:21 am

Cool new northsore and small double added. (Thanks to Troy for adding the main structure!) northshore blocked off until signs are put up. "RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK" there is a easy ride around to the right.

To see more pics with some video including the double go here

Watch doublecrash.MOV to see why its good to wear a helmet. I got a good bloody bruise even with the helmet. If your going to hit the double, hit it FAST and pick the quickest lines. Also aim right and get ready for the turn lookin out for the TREES!
No Fear???? PROVE IT!

Is this trail rideable with snow on the ground? I have never been there and am thinking about giving it a try tomorrow.

Snow riding

Postby T-rex » November 26th, 2005, 4:04 pm

There are several places on this trail where the snow may definately add a twisted challenge. There's allot of off chamber trail and some tight corners that would be challenging, not to mention some of the structure that may be slippery (there's a bypass around most), but isn't that why we ride mountain bikes! I think if you went in with an open mind and rode the snow for what it adds you'd have a great time. Use common sense.

I'd love to hear how your ride went if you decide to go.

Rode Edwards Creek this am for the 1st time. Definately one of the more technical trails just outside of the Greater Grand Rapids area. The roller coaster ladders were really fun. Some of the bridge crossings with wet boards were nail biters. I bailed on the steep drop in near Walnut St. Riding by myself and the wet concrete slabs at the bottom of the drop were spelling out disaster for me so I decided it was best to detour around it

I didn't see the northshore ladder bridges area as the pictures above depict - were they torn down?

Wished I knew how bad parts of it were when it is wet :? It was pretty soupy in some spots and I decided to hike-a-bike around these areas off to the side of the trail to keep from rutting the trail any worse than it already is.

All-in-all a very fun trail. Amazing how much trail can be put in such a small acreage area. Would ride again.... when it is dry...

Ladder bridges

Postby T-rex » January 9th, 2006, 7:24 pm

The ladder bridges and structure should still be intact, did you hit all of the trail? about 7 miles total.
