Thanks to all the volunteers that came out tonight! You made quick work of removing over 20 downed trees and even cleaned up 10 at Luton! Pizza an PBR hit the spot thanks to GR Bike Co. Trails are mostly dry with the exception of Sawtooth. The trail is officially open!

The vast majority of the trail is in fantastic shape, but there are a handful of proper muddy spots toward the end of Wynalda, in the yellow direction. I did not try sawtooth. Also, there is a tree down about a quarter mile from the end of the same section. Freshly down between my laps.

The new entries to sawtooth and the log ride are too easy. Fantastic stuff otherwise. :P

Trail was in real good shape yesterday. A couple soft spots on the new loop, but other than that it was about perfect. Just watch the slick leaves in the fast sections.

First time here, fun place to ride. Can't wait to come back when it's drier. Walked my bike over deep mud in half a dozen spots on Phaser, saw it on the new section in the back - didn't even try it, looked cool though. Two more big spots after the platform section in Chameleon. Sun came out just as I was leaving. Anxious to see it under a full canopy.

The Merrell Trail is closed until further notice, with chain at the entrance. We hope to re-open next week if the muddy areas get a chance to dry. Then we can repair them and get the water draining properly again.

Any updates on Merrell? If it's dry we plan to ride there tomorrow. If not, we'll go elsewhere.

Merrell is open as of Friday morning. There may be some mud spots as the damage in a few places was too severe to fix at this time. In those few spots, please ride straight through, not around. Thank you for your patience. Enjoy the trail!

Trail was on good shape except for mud holes on Wynalda, and some smaller ones on Sawtooth. There was a state trooper out there asking if we had seen any signs of vandalism. Good to know they are paying attention.

I did notice last time I rode there, between 1st and 2nd laps, that someone had rolled a rock out into middle of trail. Looked too big to be accidental. Not far after exit of Wynalda on a Red day. No one in parking lot when I got done except one biker.

No standing water last night , but still some soft spots. Overall excellent conditions.

Lots of same direction runners last night. Extremely dangerous in my observation as I encountered two of them in the bermed downhill.

I talked to a big group of them and they are convinced that it is safer for them to run with bike traffic.

I do a fair amount of trail running, although not at Merrell, and there is no way I would ever run with bike traffic. I like to see what's coming

I am torn on which way trail runners should run. I also do some trail running and I've run with the bike traffic without too much trouble. But I also might be hyper-aware because I also mtb.

My closest calls with runners while I was on a bike was when they were running the opposite way at Maybury. Almost hit 2 at separate time both as I rounded some blind corners. At the same time, most often the runners going the same direction see me before I see them and therefore when we pass each other it usually is a much more friendly encounter.

I don't trail run but I do hike with my dog. A runner explained to me one time that if he were to go the opposite way he would meet everyone on the trails before he started but if he went the same way he would only be passed by riders that began after him. Clinched it for me. I hike the same direction and riders always tend to see me first and slow down or I see them approaching through the trees if the trails switch backs on itself.

I'd rather step off the trail for ten oncoming riders that I see rather than get hit by one coming from behind that I didn't see.

But that's just me
