Anybody been out here since all of this snow? Is it rideable on a fatbike yet?

no way. the grooming snowmobile is broken down and the entrance to the trail looks unused save for a few hikers. The drifts are amazing near the trail head! We need to organize a snowshoe hike with lots of people. Unfortunately I will be away for a week

Hit the groomed snowmobile trails and/or the White Pine Trail with your fatbikes! That's what I'd be doing if I had a fatbike! I heard the Musketawa trail out of Muskegon is pretty "scenic" (for a snowmobile trail) with woods and twists and turns.

Let's go for a snowshoe hike Sunday morning so we can ride fat bikes in the afternoon. Big storm will be mostly over by then.

Rode my fat bike on Merrell yesterday. It's totally rideable if you keep it on the 10" of hardpack. Go off to the side a little and BAM! you're in the deep stuff  Big time fun!

The trails are closed to ALL users until Friday 2/21/14. Mike the groomer ran his snowmobile through the trails to pack down the fresh wet snow tonight. It is very soft with this warm weather so PLEASE wait until Friday when temps get below freezing and we should have a flat rock hard and fast surface to play on. Flat is the key word here, we don't want frozen tire ruts or footprints when it sets back up.

Is there signage posted at the trailhead kiosk (thinking like how Luton posts the trail closed)? I'm sure there are some folks out there that do not FB or are non-mtb'ers that would not see this either.

Merrell is open and ride able on fat bikes. Regular mtb not so much. Lots of people were trying today but they're leaving skinny ruts or deep footprints from walking. Runners are leaving post holes too. Stick to snowshoes or fat bikes for a few more days to pack it down and it will be good for all users. While I recommend fat bikes only right now everyone needs to remember this is a multi-use trail and fat bikers don't have the right to be telling others they are not allowed there. A friendly talk about using trails in soft conditions (education) is one thing but yelling at them or telling them it is only for fat bikes because we groomed it is not right. If you want a fat bike only trail go to Marquette.

Any idea if the trails will be good for regular mtb's this weekend? Want to get out somewhere and I'm not sure B-Roubaix route is a good idea yet with the ice coverage.

Does "Mike The Groomer" have plans to groom before saturday?
Anyone know?

I dont think so, not enough new snow since Sunday. It may have drifted in places but it should be good to go, unless we get accumulation again

Conditions update. Lots of drifts, soft spots and narrow packed trail to the picnic table and back on Mixmaster. Siren, Wilderness and Phaser only had hiking traffic. If a flock of fat bikes and snowshoers get out there tomorrow it will be good. If one person shows up you'll be limited to the 2.5 mile loop. Mike hopes to groom late Sunday.

The Merrell Trail is closed (driveway is chained and signed) until further notice to protect it during the spring thaw and current wet/muddy conditions. We will be updating the status of the trail on the new "Trail Conditions" page on our website athttp://www.wmmba.org/trail-conditions/ and also on our Facebook page. We will open the trail as soon as conditions permit.
