What a fun trail! Rode the whole thing this morning, and it's in great shape.

the shortcut riders are now hitting Merrell Trail. Feel free to block off any shortcuts or trail straightening. The most obvious is the zig zag boulders in the pines. I wish the noobs would just keep trying to improve their skills instead of blazing new easy ways around stuff. Starting to see some rock removal evidence too.

got out sat and rode the new section for the first time in the yellow direction. - AWESOME. rides equally great in both directions I think.

new armouring at the entrance / exit to the new loop - AWESOME

bridge adjustments to the entrance / exits of the 'expert' loop - AWESOME

from my garage to the trail, three full loops of arguably the best single track in the state and back, 35+ miles of riding - DOUBLE AWESOME

LOTS of work going on at Merrell. thanks to all the dedicated volunteers that are making this happen

How much rainfall was there in Rockford last night? Will Merrell be ridable today or would it be best to stay off the trail? I know it was really dry and dusty the last couple weeks. Looking to get in a training ride with a buddy tonight.

Merrell had heavy rain last night, it would be best to avoid it today

I 2nd that. Hit the ski area or Yankee instead. The sandy soil of those 2 trails are like a sponge right now with all the dry weather we've been having and are probably good to ride right now. In fact, the ski area and Yankee are prime soon after a rain.

First ever ride @ Merrell today. That place is incredible! The trails were pretty dry and dusty but still rode well. I'm fighting the allergy funk so my first ride was quite winded and slow but I still had a great time. I'm really green to all this mtg riding but from my layman's perspective, Merrell is certainly one of the highlights of my riding adventures. For those who have helped make that place what it is, I commend you. Hopefully I too can connect on a trail day and volunteer. (If only something would open between Yankee and Rockford)

How was the rain accumulation up Rockford way this morning? Seems like on the radar I was watching this am that the heavy stuff was mostly localized in the Grandville/Jenison area. Just curious of the soil saturation status of Merrell/Luton for late afternoon or evening ride. I know it's been dry as a bone and the ground would be like a sponge but..... Plan B for me would be the ski area.

over an inch up here in a short amount of time. I would chose the Ski Area for riding tonight.

[/strike] Strava Nuts

Wow - I shudder to think of how many Strava-Tards have modded trails to get faster times for their Dork-Quest.
Five fingers, three chords, and one *beep*.....!
