I just run regular tires. Seemed perfect today, there's no ice really and it's not slick anywhere.

Conditions were perfect for snow riding yesterday on a skinny tire bike yesterday. ~1-2" of nice fluffy light snow. Careful on the bridges but they are rideable even the 1 that pops back onto the trail when riding the Red direction. I did see someone almost missed the end of 1 of the bridges halfway thru the Sawtooth.

What's it looking like out there now? Is the trail packed down enough to ride?

Does anyone know the condition of Merrell? can it be ridden yet? I'll have my bike with me Thursday in GR and want to hit either Yankee, Egypt Valley or Merrell.

Sounds like the pizza cutters were out shredding up the trail @ EV over the weekend. My guess would be Merrell isn't ready either for daytime riding yet either. From what I have been reading, it sounds like Yankee isn't even quite ready to ride yet due to muddy areas but perhaps it is the best local trail to ride when taking soil conditions into perspective. Quite typical this time of year.

That sucks. I was thinking a trip over to The Refuge and Merrell Trail would be fun this weekend. :(

Thanks! That's about what I figured for the GR area trails. I'll keep checking on Yankee till Thursday and ride dirt roads if it doesn't improve. Do you know of any decent dirt road routes in the GR area that you can suggest?

I would suggest looking at the Lowell50 28 mile course if you want some decent dirt roads, some hills, and a planned route (takes me 30 minutes to get to Fallasburg Park from the Standale area). You could always do the 50 mile route but basically at the turnoff to do the 50 miler, all the roads are basically flat thru wide open corn country. Couple of neat covered bridges to cross...

FYI - The Lowell50 roads appear to be in decent shape. I drove the entire course this weekend to check it out (I would have rode it but was battling a really bad cold). There was only 1 section of road that was moist (a narrow east/west road with thick woods both sides that shaded the road) but the majority of the roads were dry for the most part. Looked like the county had been doing some grading in some spots judging from the loose gravel but most of the roads seemed like they were hardpack.

Merrell, Luton, Ski Area and State Game Area are not ready unless you ride when it is below 32. These picture were taken at Merrell 4-1 and it was 28 degrees out, the mud was still soft.

My wife tried to get me to trade the Iceman for the Barry since she liked the parking and finish area so much. No dice there though. No trouble adding a race but they must not be subtracted! I will consider these the "book ends" to my season from here on out.
