There is a tree down about at 6-6.5 miles, in the section of singletrack before you come out of the woods and wind your way through the field and climb toward the football practice field. It was too big for the handsaw and the school will try to get out early in the week.

Glad you liked it. It really has smoothed out quite a bit, especially the newest section in the first mile that was just finished this spring. The trail passes by a connector to BM in two spots with the main connector right before you pop out of the woods for the last time and head toward the pond below the tennis courts. Turn left and you head into Bald Mountain.

We will be starting up our Friday night rides shortly, maybe even as soon as Friday the 7th. :icon_thumleft:

There is a big tree across the trail right at the top of the long downhill bench cut and another smaller one in the first section of singletrack after the high wire course. I imagine the school will get them cleared next week.

The school has cleared the big tree at the top of the switchbacks. The smaller one will be cleared later.

Trail seemed to be in great shape this afternoon, just a bit rough in places still. I had no problem getting lost, though, especially when trying to find my way into Bald Mountain. This was my first time out there this year, and I just kept having to try pieces of trail until I found the right one.

If you had let someone know you were going we could have given you the tour. There are actually three different places you can get into Bald Mountain from the trail. Rough? Oh yeah, you are riding a rigid now. Funny, a few weeks ago I was riding Addison and thought it was rough :)

I didn't actually know until I got there... Otherwise I would have definitely taken you up on the offer. Thanks, though. :)

What I mean by rough is actually the downhill from the baseball diamonds and the stuff right after that. It reminded me of a trail that a CC team ran while muddy, and it dried with footprints. (Maybe that's what happened?) I was on my FS today, but it just felt... chattery. The rest of the trail seemed to be pretty nice, typical for what I remember of it.

Also, really? Three? I must have always used the same one then... The one I used was flagged off and (I think?) right at the end of the single track. Come out of the woods, find the first >90 left turn that's cleared (but not wide open), go down there, across a culvert, and there'll be a small Y where one enters Bald Mountain just south of marker 4. Well, intersection 4... There was no marker, just a brand new-looking map propped up against a tree.

I just remembered one thing that I really liked seeing at LOHS. When riding in the Big M / NCT area there seem to be a bunch of narrow single track trails that have green moss along them, right at the edge; a 6" - 12" stripe along each side. I don't normally see that around here, but a few parts of LOHS are like this. It's beautiful; like riding along a green carpet.

Time to charge the lights back up and head on out for a Friday night stroll around the LOHS and Bald Mountain trails. Meet at G's restaurant on the corner of Lapeer and Greenshield ready to roll at 7:00 pm. Rides have been about 1.5 hours at a pace where no one will be left behind. Figure 10-12 miles with frequent stops to regroup if necessary. After the ride join us inside G's for a little carbo reloading

Rides are dependent on weather conditions and schedules, but we don't let a little snow stop us. Updates are posted here and on the LOHS Weeknight Race facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/154937374521747/

This Friday is also the LOHS homecoming football game so it should turn a few heads if they see a line of bikers heading down the trail past the edge of the football field.

I rode the entire trail today and can't figure out where you ran into this condition. Are you sure you were on the trail? :) Come out tomorrow night and get a proper tour.

I was on them yesterday but with snowshoes. There is about 6" even in the woods so a little deep yet for bikes. I am heading out to BMS now to see if there has been enough snowmobile traffic but I'm afraid that it has not been warm enough to pack it down. I will probably end up coming back to grab the XC skis instead.
