New Bicycle Committee in City of Battle Creek

Postby wizarddaw » July 3rd, 2012, 11:20 am

Just wanted to advise everyone about this, and welcome anyone that would want to get involved. As a city commissioner here in Battle Creek, I helped form this so we can play an important part in the non-motorized master plan, and help make BC a bike friendly community.

We certainly want to promote the five E's that the League of Cyclists endorses, and would want to put on some sort of bike event in the city as part of this.

Should anyone have any ideas or information they may want to share, please do not hesitate to contact me. Take care.

It's good to see that BC City Council is taking the lead in this Dave. I have found that City Council's are fairly open to listening to bicyclist issues and doing what they can to promote biking. Bennet park in Charlotte exists because a handful of bicyclists got together and petitioned the Council to have trails...and the council was very positive and helpful. It cost the City nothing (at least I think so) and is a very respectable trail. No issues with liability, no arguing about user groups, no shelving discussion. It turned out that a couple of people on their City Council were bikers...go figure!

Thanks for asking....the resolution to form the committee and appoint interested people was approved, so we are working with the City Clerk to set the info. for the first official meeting in the next couple of weeks. We are all geeked up and ready to roll....pun intended! The community support is through the roof, which has been a very pleasant surprise.
Hope you are doing well....it is always good to hear from you.

yup, it's amazing to me how bicycling can bring a community together. So many positives... :)
Our buddy got hit (again) by some idiot who was texting...but he's ok. He bought a new bike recently from Dave over at Skidmores, a KHS hybrid. I took the Trek and fixed it up and re-gifted it. That thing just keeps on going! Gonna have a ride your bike! day at the counseling center, with a meet and greet at the Evalyn Bay in charlotte at 10 am this friday, followed by a safety class, and a group ride to Bennett park for hot dogs. there will be swag!
C'mon out if you want to do a 10 minute talk on bike safety lol! 8)
