Is anyone familiar with the Thunder Bay Trails Association? They seem to be advocating for ski and bike trails.

I grew up in Alpena, and spent a lot of time out at the old Rockport quarry. If you google around, you can find the DNR's management plan for this new park.

The Thunder Bay Trails Association (TBTA) maintains several trails in the Alpena environs - for xc skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. Probably the only decent mtb trail in the Alpena area is the Chippewa Hills Pathway, and it is maintained by the TBTA.

FYI,

Ron Anderson of TBTA is all over this and a couple other trails initiatives in that region. I'll have him drop in now and then to keep us posted on the progress in the east.

Does anyone know why the State is opening a new park and closing others?
Is this good news or bad news?
