Cut or uncut?

Postby Laser4G63 » May 2nd, 2013, 9:40 am

If you have a long seatpost (yes, I am talking seatposts), do you take a hacksaw to it and lob off the excess or just let it be au naturel? Does the material of the seatpost make a difference to you? I have a 400mm carbon seatpost and not sure if I should cut it down or just leave it alone. It's not about weight savings either because the savings would be negligible.

I just leave it alone. You never know when you may want to sell it or use it in a bike where you need more seatpost showing.

+1 to above. And think of all the added rigidity you get under your butt with that big, black uncut stick going way down the tube.
Everything I ride makes sense.

On a serious note, leave it uncut.

Uncut it is then. It seems more fitting to have that post shoved deep inside that tube anyway. Thanks all!

If you were to cut it, you'd have to move the "minimum insertion" line upwards a coresponding amount.

I was expecting a pro and con on circumcision, so I avoided the topic. :P
