Electrolyte drink tablets

Postby xycarp » June 12th, 2012, 6:06 pm

Anyone else use the electrolyte drink tabs in their camelback? After bonking at Iceman last year I started using them (Nathan Catalyst from REI) which seems to be working well... or I just could be in better shape and pushing less hard than back then. Anyway, they seem to work pretty well. They are like Gatorade without the sugar.

What do you use? How do you know it actually works?

I like the cliff blocks. They are the best tasting supp I have tried yet, I haven't tried drink tabs because I don't want to have to wash out my camelback every ride and have it be nasty, but I have tried a few different kind of gels, gu, sport beans, etc.

Same thing here, started using them this year after bad cramps at Iceman. Have used the Gu and Hammer ones and so far so good thus far - did get hit with a cramp right at the end of Fort Custer time trial though, but only after pushing pretty hard in the heat for over an hour and pressing on with too a high of a gear for the final stretch.

I do appreciate the blocks. They seem pretty good. I have done plenty of goo's in the past as well. The problem with goo's is they mess up your pockets when you hold on the empties

I have a camelback mule (100 oz) and fill it for long rides. I typically drop two of the tablets in it. The nice thing about the tablets is, it's in the water. Not stopping, or digging in pockets... I rode pretty hard Sunday (three laps at Bald Mountain) in the 90 degree heat without issue.

And here I thought water bottles were for non stop nutrition. Camelbak just H2O for me. but that's a whole nother argurment.

My wife likes Hammer Fizz. or whatever they call it. I use powder. both of us just in our bottles.

Foolishly tried the Camelback Elixir in a couple water bottles in a sprint adventure race a few years ago, one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made racing. I had to stop every few minutes because of crippling gas pain, and at the end of the race I limped across the finish line and straight to the porta jon.

I have used the tablets in my camelbak, and they seem to work well, and don't cause any trouble for me.

I've been liking Infinit a lot. I heard about it from dirt and bergsteiger and gave it a go. I personally mix up a bottle based on the length of my ride, with 1x strength being for a 1 hour ride, 3x strength for a 3 hour ride. I then bring a hydration pack full of water. Each hour worth of Infinit is good for an hour of hard riding, and I just make a point of drinking it steadily as I ride. It works well.

Where do you buy it at? Sounds like something I would like.

Ordering from their website http://www.infinitnutrition.us is the easiest way.

Anyone else try NAPALM from Infinit? It seems to work ok, as long as I keep the flask nozzle closed. Otherwise my jersey pockets get crunchy.

For pure electrolytes I do use Nuun in my hydration pack from time to time (or in a bottle for short rides, where nothing else is required). Please note they have next to no sugars or anything so not a nutrition source.
I usually use this on long hot rides and races because for me straight water gives me some funny stomach feelings after a long time, i stumbled across that Nuun helps with that for me.

For on the bike nutrition I use Inifinit as stated above.
