Ann Arbor Loop and downhill run?

Postby Rod » March 20th, 2003, 3:45 pm

To all:

Does anyone have the Ann Arbor ride loop mapped out?

Also, can someone repost the way to get to the downhill course in Ann Arbor? I seem to remeber you drove to a parking lot at the base of the hill.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rod

There is no map.

The only way to know it is to know it (and thats what makes it so cool).

There are some weekly shop-rides that get going in the summertime (usually at night) and those are the best way to get to know the loop. I'll post up when they get going.

Never mind, I just found the downhill directions. To anyone else interested:

take 275 South to M-14 West to Ann Arbor.(after 15 minutes you'll actually merge on 23 North for a few minutes, but be sure to head south again on M14 West) Take exit #3 (Main St.) off of M14, go down about a mile and turn left on Depot Street. Take Depot and turn left onto Fuller Rd, then left again onto Maiden Lane. Immediately after you cross the river turn right on Island drive and head back to the parking lot. that's the base of the downhill.

Downhill run

Rod,
I actualy just rode the down hill run yesterday. Which was a mistake still very muddy. I was out doing a urban ride and figured what the hey, and went tooling down it. I have a warning for you. It's still very sloppy and nasty from the thaw, and some one has tried to close some of the trail by draging brush over the entrances of some of the sections. So if you do decide to run it, watch for the dead fall over the trail.

That downhill is hard enough when it's dry.. I'd certainly wait till the ground's a little more solid.. it would be pretty treacherous muddy..

Otherwise I'd be happy to run the A2 loop with you sometime as well as the DH in a few weeks, hopefully!
email me later and we'll go.

ride hard, Ian

Awesome! I will have to take you up on that Ian. I will definately wait for off road action until the thaw is over.

As Al said, there is not specific Ann Arbor Loop. For me it starts and ends in my driveway, and the route depends on how much time I have and how hard of a ride I want. If I rode everything I know of it would probably be a 5+ hour ride! I have a route I like to ride that takes about 2 hours, but giving directions for that would start you from my house.
