Kelli Emmett in the news...

Postby Farmer_John » March 19th, 2003, 8:46 am

From Velonews:

Fraser, Emmett tops in Tucson opener
Gord Fraser (Health Net) put the hammer down in the opening time trial at the Tucson Bicycle Classic on Friday.

The Canadian speedster covered the 3-mile course on McCain Loop Road in Tucson Mountain Park in 7:09:29, 14 seconds faster than Phil Zajicek (Saturn) and 17 quicker than Todd Wells (Mongoose-Hyundai). Fraser was one of three Health Net riders cracking the top 10.

In the women's contest, Kelli Emmett took the win in 9:06:71, followed by Mt. Velo-SuperGo teammates Jennifer Wilson and Amy Vink at four seconds and seven seconds back, respectively.

Racing continues Saturday with a road race on a rolling, 21-mile desert circuit that includes a sharp climb up Gates Pass, with a grade of 12 percent grade, before dropping quickly to the finish line six miles away.

Congrads to Kelli who finished second today in the XC, and third overall in the GC against a very strong pro field.

Quote from Kelli on her finish at the Nova Stage Race, located at velonews.com:

"I know it's early and this doesn't mean much," she said. "But it's good for the confidence."

Yeah right...may she continue to have results that "don't mean much"...
