I'm going South. Any suggestions???

Postby Chad Noetzel » March 6th, 2003, 2:35 pm

I'm driving to West Palm the first week of April.
Do you guys know any place along the way I could stop for the day to get some MTBing in?
I was thinking of going to Conyers and riding the Olympic course. Anyone been riding down south in April? Or should I take the road bike to Florida and forget it.

Georgia...

If you want to ride Georgia, I would skip the Olympic course, I went to that event and it didnt seem to exciting! I would recommend visiting Dahlonega Georgia, there a couple different trails, I personally have ridden the Bull Mountain trail one of Georgias most popular Mtb trails! It was a total blast water falls, a couple stream crossings, screaming downhills, lung blasting climbs! It has it all!! Here is a link to a site with some info on the area  http://www.dahlonega.org/biking/mountainbiking.html

We went to Ocala FLA area and found some awesome riding at two places. One is Santos state park and the other is called the Razorback. There are reviews and directions to both on mtbr and they are both not to far off the expressway. I've been to quite a few states in the SE and this was the best riding I've had.

Sweet, I 've been to Ocala many times. I'll definately check that out.
I'll also try to get to the spots in Ga.
Although the further south I get the more the beaches and Tiki Bars look better.
If any of you are down there look for a Fuel 100 in the bike rack at the local PUB.

Between Cocoa Beach and Orlando

Postby April » March 6th, 2003, 10:58 pm

YOU can check out the Big Little Econ State Forrest. It's north west of Orlando near the Sanford Airport. You'd be about 20 min to Cocoa! My FAV beach in Fl next to Key West!

I was going to go to FL in April as well...we check out some road rides as well...there is a Ride Across Florida on Sat the 11th. 170 miles or 85 for 1/2 way. It leaves from Cocoa Beach. ALso there is a tour of Southern Georgia and Northern FL called TOSRV South (like the famous TOSRV in Ohio). I don't recall the dates though. Ocala and the Santos trail is awesome!

Here a nice website of the MTB trails in Florida. I'm headed down next month as well, and might even have time to check one out. I am headed Ft MYers way.

I rode the Caloosahatchee Regional Park trail last year while down in Ft Myers, it was a very fun trail, you start out riding near a swamp, chased a gater off the opposite shore! then it takes you up in an open field, very different riding through Palms! Supposedly there are wild pigs and deer in the park, never did encounter any, I did stop upon hearing some wrestling in the woods, got the heck out there! anyway it was the closest trail to Ft Meyer, this group takes care of the trail and oh yah next to the parking lot is a small skills area!
http://www.mudcutters.org/ they have weekly rides!

Check out the trail in Fort Pierce Florida
Go to:

I rode it last week and it was a blast. Kind of like Maybury meets Burchfield in the jungle.
