Time for new Shoes...

Postby classrc » June 18th, 2012, 7:01 pm

OK - It's time to replace the old Pearl Izumi MTB shoes I've been using for the past 4 years... They're doing more ham than good at this point... I'm leaning towards the Speci Rime shoes see here... Seems to be a comfy, well rounded shoe w/out being ultra stiff (I do hike some hills, sometimes  )

I've heard nothing but good things re Speci's Body Geometry shoes. Any thoughts?

My Specialized Pro Carbon BG's are by far the most comfy shoe I have owned yet. Stiff & comfy.....

I like my Specialized shoes quite a bit. Good call on getting some with a latch for the upper strap.

I've owned a couple of pairs of Specilized MTB shoes. They've all been decent. My Sidi road shoes are awesome. I might give Sidi's a try for my next pair of MTB shoes.

just bought my second pair of SIDI dominators
last ones are a decade old, but i wanted to replace them while they were still good
the buckles were re-engineered (better again)
the toes on my newest pair have more venting, not so sure i will like that come cooler temps,
but they perform perfectly

I am on my second pair of SIDS. Used to have Dominators which I sold to my buddy, but this year I upgraded to Spiders. Highly recommended.
The higher end SIDS are made in Italy.

Check this out. Those are pretty much the same as old Dominators.

That's why I upgraded to Spiders. However the velcro ones were still pretty good considering the price.

510 minnaar, hellcat or cyclone

Edit: at least this is what i'm getting after my current 661's are worn out.

I like Lake shoes, for me any of the carbon soles shoes fit the best I have MX330c at the moment and love them.

One note is I cannot wear Perl Izumi shoes, so Lakes may not work for you.

Ok, after trying on several pairs at a few LBS's, I've gotten it down to two...

1. Specialized Expert MTB
2. Specialized Comp MTB

The main diff between the two is the Expert is carbon (with 3 velcro straps) and the Comp is reinforced plastic (with a top ratchet strap).

Is the stiffer sole of thr Expert enough to justify the loss of the ratchet strap (and an additional $25)?

I would go with the comp for sure. The ratchet strap is huge, especially if you ever ride with them in the rain, etc.

I've had the comps for a year and a half now and they've been nice.

Yes. The ratchet is awesome and is worth the cost for sure.
