Highland is very well marked. There will be no confusion which way to go. I like to do A, B and then D loop. Try
and stay on the trail, Posion Ivy can be a b!t@h out there.

All I can say is....What a Bad A$$ trail!!! Also, I'm glad it's so far away so i don't have to make excuses not to ride it all the time. When you guys say it takes leg strength, that's no joke! I only did "A" loop (Twice, forgot camelbak at car) and "B" loop, total of just over 10 miles and took forever, it really is a technical trail with LOTS of climbs. I would love to get back out there again when it cools down, Thursday was HOT. I also tried to ride at Stony on Saturday morning but there was a race going on that I didn't find out about till we actually encountered racers on the green loop...wish the people at the gate would have mentioned that....bummer. Have to try that one again next time.

For what it's worth, even thought there was a race the trails are still open. There's no reason you can't still ride, and anyone racing should know how to pass safely to account for the open nature of the course.

I figured that, but I had a beginner with me and out of courtesy to the racers we opted to turn back for the car. She was a little uncomfortable on her first time out as it was and with those guys whizzing by, would have been a night mare for her.

For a beginner also check out River Bends at 22 Mile and Ryan. Map here. The regular loop is very accessible for a new rider.
