Full suspension bike on hitch mount bike rack

Postby oldkhs » October 1st, 2010, 7:54 am

How is everyone doing this? I found this adaptor online.

We have a Yakima rack and it doesn't seem like it will work for the FS bike.

That adaptor worked fine for me on a top tube style bike rack for a full suspension bike.

That's what I use to hang my Giant Trance from a trunk rack and it works fine.

Not sure about your bike, but with my Trance, I can make it fit by securing it on the bottom of the downtube on one side and the top tube on the other. Looks a little weird, but worked better for me than any of the adapters. Play around with it a little bit, you might be able to make it work with no additional items

I have 2 of the Saris versions and they work fine!

Where do you live? I ask because (not trying to push the Saris) my local bike shop has the Saris (if in stock!) for ONLY a few dollars more, $35.00. This way you are supporting your local shop, and can get it today! I would think the other brands adapters are about the same price at your LBS.

Most bike shops should have that or a similar product from another company in stock. They might cost a few dollars more, but you don't have to pay shipping.

When it comes time to get a new hitch rack, consider getting one of the types that holds the bike by its tires. That way frame shape does not affect the ability to put it on the rack.

The adapters work great. I bought three at *beep*'s. Can't remember the brand but they work well and have held up for four or five years with no significant sign of wear.

OK, thanks to all. I don't need right away, but wanted some feedback if I need to get one. Not sure if / when I'll need to take the bike somewhere. Having fun riding close to home now.
